Walked to the store this morning and was disheartened to see a very worried sparrow. It was pacing back and forth in front of a bus-stop bench and moaning quietly to itself. A little farther on, where a flowerbed bordered the sidewalk, I saw two dozen lilies, all in bloom and all crying, “Woe, oh woe.”
“Why, this is impossible!” I cried.
I was right, it is impossible. The lilies of the field and the sparrows that hang around your neighborhood do not worry. Ever.
There is an odd little verse the Psalms that gives a clue as to why. “He who sits in the heavens laughs.”
Laughter is as far as you can get from worry. God not worried about Barak Obama and his anti-Christ ways. Or Hillary Clinton’s corrupted soul. He laughs. Sparrows know that, so do the lilies.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things (food, clothes, dwelling) shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 is all about trust.
Or if a neopoint bumper sticker would be more comfortable for you than scripture, try this. “Pray big, worry small. Trust God, love people. Laugh more, stress less.”
